About Us

Owner Victoria Butler grew up in a family of seven girls. Appearance was important to them, and they were constantly doing each other’s hair. There was always a friendly competition going on as to who could look the best – although they were also very supportive of each other’s efforts.

When Vicky got older, the obvious choice for her career path was working with hair. After graduating from Blaine Hair School in Boston, she started work as a hairdresser in Hyannis. Before long, she and a partner decided to purchase a hair salon of their own in Osterville. In 1980, they rented out the front of a building and opened CV Styles of Osterville.

After five years, the partner moved on, and Vicky changed the name of the salon to Hair Waves of Osterville. She also moved to the back part of the building for a time, but later found a bigger space out of which to operate the salon. Eventually she found a fourth building which she bought and turned into the permanent home for the salon.

Over the years, Vicky has seen the beauty industry change tremendously. One of her requirements for all those who work at her shop is that they consistently keep current with trends and styles by taking classes on cutting and coloring. She’s also tried to resist the trend many salons fall into of renting out their chairs to other stylists. She feels that by maintaining an element of control over enforcing the salon’s standards and rules, she’s able to provide a consistent experience for the customer.

Clientele come all the way from Cotuit to Boston (on winter weekends), and even as far as Palm Beach. They describe the salon as having a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which they instantly feel comfortable and relaxed. The salon is able to offer full service, ranging from body waxing to hair extensions. Some of Vicky’s sisters work in her salon, and one of them operates a sister salon in Buzzards Bay called Hair Today Plus.
